George & Molly Greene

Molly Greene

George and Molly Greene are co-founders of Water Missions International, an engineering relief and development Christian nonprofit that provides safe water and an opportunity to hear the Living Water message in developing countries and disaster areas. Since inception in 2001, Water Missions International has provided safe water in 42 countries and served two million people.

Together, in 1981, they founded General Engineering Laboratories, which they grew into one of the largest privately held mixed waste environmental testing laboratories in the United States.

Molly Greene earned her B.A. in Spanish from the Mississippi University for Women.

Molly and George became aware of the global water needs in 1998, following their response to Hurricane Mitch in Honduras. They sold their for profit company in 2001 and followed God’s call to start Water Missions International.

George and Molly have been married 40 years and have two adult children: Jeni Greene Gardner, a Family Nurse Practitioner, married to Danny Gardner, a dentist and George Greene IV, a Chemical Engineer working with Water Missions International and married to Gina, a speech pathologist. They have six grandchildren. Their youngest child, John Christian, went home to the Lord in 1984.

Together, George and Molly have earned the following honors and awards of distinction: The Citadel School of Business’ Leadership of Principle Award, 2011; Rotary International’s “Service above Self” Award, 2008; AWWA (American Water Works Association) Award of Merit, 2007; La Societe Francaise Prix D’Honneur, 2005; and the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award, 2003.

In 2010, Molly was honored as Charleston Women in International Trade’s “Woman of the Year.” She has been honored as Charleston Federation of Women’s Clubs’ “Woman of the Year” in 2006. She has served on Trident United Way’s Board and the Board of Visitors of MUSC. She is the Chairman of the Water Missions International Board.

George and Molly are members of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where George was Senior Warden and led the renovation after Hurricane Hugo.
